My name is Dennis Hunter. I'm a writer from New York City. In addition to this site, I write the biweekly "21st-Century Buddhism" feature on the Interdependence Project blog. My work has also appeared on Buddhist Geeks and Rebel Buddha, and in Bodhi magazine.
I want to wake up. Completely. I regard writing as a contemplative tool that can produce awakening and insight.
I'm interested in exploring the issues that face students of Buddhism and other spiritual traditions in a postmodern, Western, consumer culture that puts little emphasis on spiritual matters. In my practice and my writing, I try to bring the ancient wisdom of the Buddhist teachings to life in a way that is fresh and relevant and free from religious baggage.
I'm also an avid student of comparative religion, and enjoy finding the common ground between different spiritual traditions.
Recently I completed an intensive two-year residential training program as a temporary monk at a Buddhist monastery in the remote wilds of Cape Breton in Nova Scotia, Canada.
